How long have you been journaling and what made you start the hobby?
I have journaled on and off for most of my life, but it’s been more of a consistent habit since 2016 – it’s become a real passion and habit. I was looking for a way to express myself creatively and journaling became the perfect outlet for me.
What inspires you?
Nature and changing seasons definitely is a massive inspiration in the way that I create. The colours outside my window always find a way of showing up on my pages. It may have something to do with the weather too.
I love watching YouTube videos to see how other people document their days too; there is always something new to learn. Whether it’s a technique, a style, a new writing technique, I can always add to my creative arsenal.
What is it about journaling that you enjoy?
There is no pressure and there is not a “wrong” way of journaling!
A sketchbook always makes me feel that I need to create a great sketch or piece of artwork. In my journal, I feel free to create and document in any way that I like, with no expectations, limitations or pressure.
What is your favourite Manuscript product and why?
The Switch Tip pens are my personal favourite. I love that I can quickly change the nibs around for brush lettering, writing and doodling, in such a wide variety of colours. I do have to keep getting refills.
What benefits do you find to journaling?
Creating in my journal helps me switch off from a busy work day, so it’s a relaxing experience. It’s also somewhere that I can create my plans, note down funny conversations and explore any difficulties that I’m facing. It’s a memory keeping exercise as much as a creative one.
Where do you most like to get creative?
I have a desk devoted to creative fun. I’m surrounded by all my favourite supplies and I can see straight out into the garden. As soon as I sit there, I can’t help but feel inspired.
Does a blank page scare you?
Yes, I’m not a fan of blank pages! To take away the fear, I very often add some bright colours, washi tape or stickers. Best just to doodle! As soon as something is on my page, I immediately relax and he creativity starts flowing
If you had to give one tip to aspiring journal artists, what would it be?
Don’t over-think it – just start! You will find your own unique style by trying out different techniques and you will be amazed at how different your journal pages look in just a few months’ time. Always have a look back and see how far you’ve come. These pages will be part of your journaling journey.
